Dock

What is a dock? A handling dock is a station that is part of the basic transport infrastructure. This type of complete station consists of a system of several devices that allow direct and uninterrupted transport by forklift trucks between the interior of the delivery vehicle and the warehouse. When planning a truck ramp, a detailed analysis must be carried out, taking into account the most important factors, such as the type and dimensions of the trucks to be handled, the volume of traffic and orders, the characteristics and type of loading units to be picked up, the available infrastructure, the storage of goods in the warehouse, and the equipment and prevailing microclimate.

Layout of the transshipment docks

The special design of the loading docks should be emphasised. Each dock consists primarily of an industrial gate, which is the outer part responsible for closing the warehouse. In addition, the design includes sealing sluices that serve as an effective seal and protect the transported goods during loading and unloading. In addition, the airlocks protect the entire loading area from adverse weather conditions. The dock leveller makes it possible to bridge the height difference between the warehouse floor and the vehicle, which makes the work much easier. To increase safety and comfort, each truck ramp can be equipped with a traffic light that indicates to both drivers and warehouse staff whether the ramp is ready for docking, as well as safety posts that mark the way and separate the passages between the ramps. Other components include safety wedges that prevent the vehicle from sliding away during loading and unloading, as well as rubber bumpers and wheel guides that also have a direct impact on safety by allowing the delivery vehicle to be positioned correctly in relation to the industrial door.

The main advantages of truck docks

The use of docks in the warehouse has many advantages. One of the biggest advantages is the reduction of turnaround times, which is very important for transport and haulage companies. In addition, the dock increases the capacity of the loading and unloading station and makes it possible to maintain order between the vehicles that move there and provides space for different types of delivery vehicles. In addition, the truck ramps effectively protect the goods from adverse weather conditions so that work can be done all year round and the cargo is protected from unauthorised access. The big advantage, of course, is also energy saving and improvement of working conditions for workers in transport and forwarding companies, increasing their comfort, efficiency and productivity.
