Dispatcher
A dispatcher is one of the most important persons employed in a transport or forwarding company and is responsible for many logistic and organizational issues. Without a dispatcher, a forwarding company would not be able to perform its functions smoothly or provide services at the highest level. This position is very important and that is why most of the people hired for this position are graduates in logistics and forwarding, preferably with experience in the transport industry. The position of dispatcher requires teamwork skills, responsibility, conscientiousness, creativity, self-reliance, and geographic knowledge.
Main duties of a dispatcher in a forwarding company
The main and the most important duties of the dispatcher in the forwarding company include the distribution of orders to individual drivers and monitoring the technical condition of the entire fleet of vehicles. In addition, the person employed in this position is responsible for checking the inventory on an ongoing basis and the completeness of transport documents received, as well as being responsible for creating analyses and reports and taking care of the quality and timeliness of deliveries and the execution of accepted orders. It is also worth mentioning that the dispatcher should assist in developing a delivery plan.
In this profession, considering all the duties, it is also extremely important to have organizational skills and planning abilities. Communication skills are also important, as the dispatcher is in constant contact with co-workers. Additionally, this person should be resistant to stress, can work under time pressure, and know foreign languages as this is extremely important when hiring companies that provide international transportation services. It is also worth mentioning that dispatchers are very often employed based on a shift contract and therefore it is necessary to work also during nights and holidays.
